The National Platform - Integrated Sustainable Waste Management - Sri Lanka is a collective effort for adopting integrated, economically feasible and environmentally sound sustainable waste management practices in Sri Lanka. It intends to integrate efforts from government institutions, private sector firms and civil society organizations.
 
 
Intergrated Sustainable Waste Management National Forum - Sri Lanka
  Community Based Solid Waste Management Project in Matale / Matale Enriched Compost (MEC)  
 
• Project Aim and Objectives: o To promote source separation of waste and community involvement in waste management. o To test the partnership approach / method in municipal solid waste management by involving the key stakeholders o To play a vital role in project implementation by a NGO • Main Activities: o Community awareness on source separation of waste o Training of field project staff o Construction of the compost yard o Purchase of items for the composting yard o Collection operation of organic waste and recyclable waste o Process of organic waste to produce compost o Processing of compost production o Sale promotion of compost o Progress monitoring & evaluation of project activities • Expected Outcomes: o About 1100 families would be engaged in source segregation of waste o Continuation of collection of segregated waste from houses and business premises o Continuous production of compost (around 5000-6000 kg of compost per month).
